Today the FCC issued a Public Notice stating
"additional targeted testing is needed to ensure that any potential commercial
terrestrial services offered by LightSquared will not cause harmful interference to GPS operations."
But don't think this is over yet.

I wonder who is gonna decide what "harmful" means.
NTIA to LightSquared - Show us those filters
On 09 September 2011 NTIA's Assistant Secretary Lawrence Strickling sent a letter to DoD and DoT.
One very interesting detail in that letter is that Strickling essentially says that LightSquared will have to provide their oft-mentioned filters before the start of the next round of testing of precision GPS receivers. These are the filters that do not exist and many believe are not even possible to create. This puts a real kink in LightSquared's rollout plans.
This will probably get even more interesting before it is over.

Approaching reasonableness?
In the latest iteration of LightSquared's plan (07 Sep 11) it appears they have accepted the 1 dB C/No degradation criterion used by the Technical Working Group instead of the ridiculous 6 dB figure LightSquared pushed for in its 30 June 2011 Recommendation document.
So that's encouraging anyway.

End of story.

Here is a headline from an article I received in my inbox today from Gita News Hub,
GPS World Files Freedom of Information Request for U.S. Gov LightSquared Letters
When I clicked on the article on the main page, it took me to a GPS World header with this title. I couldn't find a direct link to post, but copied their data from their message To:

There appears to be a lot of under the table dealings by the FCC that they don't want to release.

Has Limbaugh exposed this bunch of Obamites?
Just Give The Air Force The Go Ahead...
> I have seen some efforts to politicize this, but I think it hasn't happened yet wholesale as there are so many strange bedfellows over this spanning a decade that it may be hard for anyone to hurl a grenade without getting hit themselves.

Right on, Gavin... and many thanks for your ongoing involvement and efforts in support of the GPS user community.
