We are in a position to either repair our Leica 1220t data collector screen or to purchase a CS15 for communication with our 1203 robotic. Would you repair the data collector or purchase a new one?
I have requested the cost to upgrade TPS to work with the CS15 but have not received same as yet.
Thanks,
Hamilton
I would love to ditch our RX1250 for the new C15 but alas they will not run our ATX1230GGs. If works for you price wise I would go for the new collector. I was told by Leica that the C15 can be ordered with a radio that will work with the TPS1200 system.

Let me know if you need some help with this....I am the Leica Direct rep for the MD, DC, & mid atlantic territory
The Leica CS15 is a great Data Collector. We just ordered our second unit. I do not have any experience with the RX1200, but I have heard some people complain about it. Ours uses the TS30 Radio Handle. We did have a problem with the Radio Handle, but our dealer fixed that. My only complain is that "Sets of Angles" is an additional cost program.
Steve, are you using 1200 (~2006 model) or 1200+ with the CS15?

you might want to include an email contact so's we can look you up; i think i know who you is tho'
Go with the cheapest option, which is probably fixing your collector.
I was told by the manufacturer that the internal battery on these older style Leica data collectors (T1220, RX1250, etc.) is part of the board. The life expectancy of the battery is 5-6 years. Once the battery goes, a new board is needed. I understand that it is an expensive repair.
It's hard to say which option (repair/new) is the best for the remaining useful life of a TPS1200 total station.
Going with the cheapest can cost more in the long run. I am trying to keep from making that mistake. However, since I have not made any decisions on the CS15 and the high cost of controlling a TPS1200 with a CS15, I think we will fix our 1220t. Only problem I have is this will be the second screen that we have had to replace.
thanks to all for their response
We have a TCRP 1201+ R1000 and have ordered a TCRP1202+ R400 tht should arrive next week. Both will be fully Robotic. We even got the Laser Plumb Carriers and the hard case for the Prisms. I have told my field people that it will be easier to replace them than a prism and that I want the prisms protected. We do some monitoring surveys each year that call for extreme accuracy, so we got 4 of the High precision 360 prisms. When we ordered the TRCR 1202+, we just ordered the standard 360 prisms. It is quite a collection of equipment. One of the best things that I think Leica makes is the Prism Pole that has solid locks on it every 10th of a foot. The days of the Prism slipping during a topo are over.

do you use this hp 360 prism on a pole for extreme accuracy (seems like a lot of potential systematic error in that combination). that leica bubble is an eight or nine minute resolution, right?
wouldn't things actually be better with a tripod and leica circular prism? do you use the "offset" tape for prism heights and instrument heights?
Thanks for the info. Can the CS15 can be used with the TPS1200 (the one before the + series), I wonder? And is the Smartworx data collector software still creating a multitude of files or have they reduced the volume down?
And yes this manufacturer does make intelligently designed accessories, that's for sure. The red cases are also very well built.

No, we mount that prism an a Laser Plumet Carrier, mounted in a Leica non optical plumb tribrach, on top of a Leica GTS 20 Tripid that has a sand bag on each leg. The Laser plumet is rotated 180 degrees after the setup to insure that it is in adjustment. Since we are more concerned with horizontal displacement, we measure up with a folding rule. We also run levels across all the points with a Leica DNA10 Digital Level though.
But when we are using the same instrument for a topo, we do mount the prism on a prism pole. We do all of our traversing using the leap frog technique and 3 or more tripods.

copy that, thanks for the clarification
Hpalmer,
I'm curious as to what the problem was with the screen(s). Were they beat up from use/abuse, or did they fail in some other manner?.
thanks in advance.
I need to replace one our screens due to abuse/use. The coating is gone and now you can not see it in the sun. This will not be a problem in the coming months though.
was dropped and hit tripod leg. BTW, we sent in to get screen repaired and found out that the radio module was also damaged. We are now looking for a 1220t or 1250t replacement
