I was wondering if anyone can recommend a group or two that can handle FCC licensing, etc.?

I read about one on this forum called http://www.radiolicensing.com/ so just trying to see who everyone is using.

Mainly looking to get properly licensed for radio modems.. not quite sure what to expect on costs associated with getting properly licensed so if anyone can comment to that, I would appreciate it!

Thanks.

I used Atlas which you can find here. I needed to renew my license and update it to the new narrow-banding rules. Cost was $785 for both actions. Now I routinely work near the Canadian border so my license is a bit different (read costly). It's my understanding that getting a new license (Operating South of Line A or West of Line C-basically 90 miles from the Canadian border) would cost about $350. Be aware that all the companies are swamped due to the migration to narrow-banding.

We were referred to EWA (Enterprise Wireless Alliance). Give them a call at 800-886-4222. See what they charge. I think we were told to add narrow band would be around $260.

Quick question.. I keep seeing mentioning about base/mobile or mobile only licensing -- mainly pulling from the price reference at EWA: http://www.enterprisewireless.org/Resources/Schedule_Services -- trying to see what all I need to get.

We normally use a RTK setup so don't always have a base, but sometimes we do utilize a base setup. There are also some occasions where we use a repeater or two to get around line of sight issues.

Plus there is the narrowbanding going on so want to make sure I'm selecting the correct services.

Our primary radio equipment includes: Pacific Crest EDL II (currently on 25 kHz but using 19.2 kbps baud for equiv. efficiency), Trimble R8 GNSS (also utilizing internal radio modem), and we have a few SS radios.

Probably will move to ADL's eventually.. Or maybe even move completely over to 900 mHz.. not as much interference just not as much distance.

So far I'm thinking we need:

New/Modified Frequency or Pair/Site at 30-470 MHz
FCC Form 601 Preparation/Application
Construction Notice/Call Sign

I also do not currently have a FRN, if that matters.

Obviously I'm new to this process and just making sure I get it correct.. I must make sure I fill out the forms properly so I don't get charged extra!

Thanks again!

After reading the forms, maybe I just need a mobile only..

Mobile Only System/5-Channel Increments is the listed service from EWA..

so would be the following services then:
Mobile Only System/5-Channel Increments
Establish FRN/ULS Password
Notification of Construction
Form 601

I've been involved in licensing Red Cross radios. "Base" in this context means bolted solidly to a building or tower and staying in one place for years at a time.

ashton,

Perfect, thanks for the clarification.

That is how I interpreted it in this context but always good to double check!
