the SE corner of Section 35 on the township line.
When I picked it up I could clearly see a R and possibly a 6. Of course it's a 1 x 5 stone one notch on the east and 5 on the west. The R and 6 were to be on the west face.
I just couldn't see them, I took pictures and when I'm looking at them, there were the 5 notches, almost gone now, but still there:
Had to look at the picture to see them.
A good example of how faint markings get with sandstones

We have a whole State full of sandstone. Down south and east their is a lot of limestone too, thankfully. Reading the weathered marks can get very challenging. It doesn't help that you might have to dig another damned hole if the stone you found doesn't bear the proper marks....your mind can make you see things.
BTW, the R6 is plainly visible in your pic...the hashes not so much...
Man I wish I could find some rock like that... It hard finding anything in our swamps.
Swamps aren't an issue out here, or trees
Weird thing is the hatches look to be indented as they should be...the R6 looks to be raised.
Photos can be deceiving.
yeah, the R does looked raised, it did in the field too, when I first looked, rub your finger across it and you can feel the depression
