The distinguishing feature of Diagram 8 is that the crawlspace is at or above grade on at least one side of the building. Does this have to be along the entire length of one side, or is just a part of the length of one side okay?

Well, looking at the diagram picture I see that grade is at the bottom of the crawl space at the front corner of the building and grade is above the bottom of the crawl space at the back corner of the building, so I would have to say that as long as the grade is "at" or "above" and never "below" you would be OK.
