The earth could be hit by a wave of violent space weather as early as Tuesday
Nasa-scientists-braced-for-solar-tsunami-to-hit-earth

“This means we have a very good chance of seeing major and prolonged effects, such as the northern lights at low latitudes."

When this happened back in the late 80s, the midnight sky turned pink in Central Florida. I'll be watching for it tonight!

:-O

Perhaps the astounding afterglow minutes after the sunset here last night was a precursor to tonight.

Winchester will probably be cloud-covered tonight, which is what usually happens during an interesting celestial event...:-(

Gorgeous Pic, Peter!

That pic is absolutely stunning!! Where did you take that? US or Mexico?

Here's a link to the article posted on CNN. I'll be out there tonight, watching, waiting, hoping with camera in hand. 🙂

Space Weather News for August 3, 2010
http://spaceweather.com

CME IMPACT: As expected, a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field on August 3rd. The impact, which occurred around 1730 UT, sparked a polar geomagnetic storm. At the time that this alert is being written, sky watchers in Europe as far south as Germany are reporting red and green Northern Lights. If the storm sustains itself for a few more hours, people in North America might see a similar display. Sky watchers in Alaska, Canada, and northern-tier US states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota and Maine should be alert for auroras.

Noodles... Re: Gorgeous Pic, Peter!

that was taken from out in my back yard, Punta Estero, Ensenada, Baja Ca, Mexico
31°43'35"N 116°39'04"W

It looks like there will be a bit less overcast tonight, there maybe something really special in store.
The colors last night were surreal. I am sure science explains it all but I am a romantic and would rather call it magic.

here are all the pix I took of the last seconds of the sunset and after glow as we walked up the beach:
color is true in all photos

Noodles... Re: Gorgeous Pic, Peter!

...full time for the last 2 1/2 years, and the foreseeable future.

Crime here is less than many parts of the world, but it is a society that is lightly regulated and that scare the heck out of many... News is a product, the spin masters do their job well, and "crime in Mexico" sells lots of advertising. What the heck do I know, after 14 years of a mix of here, San Diego, Ca and Prescott, Az tells me I am way safer here.

Land titles are another story... archaic and scattered records, many un-recorded documents, and in our Cash society very few people are astute enough to properly prove their title upon purchase as a lender would. BUT Titles properly registered are as solid as a rock, much like I believe the Torrens System is. My "land office business" is a coming commodity.

I deal with bilingual Mexicans and expats mostly and do not have the need to us my pidgin Spanish much, and there is always someone around to translate in a pinch.

time to get on the beach for the sunset!!!!
