1 thing I like is the line numbering of the dat file- that's helpful.

the dat file does have colored text to denote the various commands

pounded out comments are green- (i think)

and the other commands are blue

'comments/remarks/notes are a grey- (I think)

project data is a pinky purple color- (I think)

otherwise new look/layout and finding stuff under different tabs- or the same tabs in different locations on the descktop.

IT will be pretty tough to make any sign. improvement in V 6

Any other new features I'm not seeing ?

It still has the look of Dosshell, I think they should just make it a straight up GUI. It would probably make it easier to market.

I thought the new multi-color text editor sounded like such a lame enhancement that I didn't bother to look at the release. It's just annoying to see a program like Star*Net, whose power is its simplicity, cluttered up with crappy "enhancements".

If Leica owns a chunk of the program, I hope the priorities are shifted to actually producing a working converter for Leica conventional data. When I was considering buying a Leica robot, the fact that the Leica Star*Net converter was such an amateurish, basically non-functional effort was enough to dissuade me from buying Leica equipment.

One enhancement that I understood the latest release of Star*Net would have was the ability to weight coordinates by entering their covariance matrices. That should simplify the entry of OPUS-derived positions significantly if so since the uncertainties in the position could be used in weighting the coordinates entered, instead of using the workaround that I do, but which burns a few minutes of cut-and-paste time.

what, the notepad method I outlined was too difficult?

Leica bought Intellicad, too. They seem to be making progress as far as importing the Leica DBX files into a drawing. They are still working on the Leica/Star*net integration. I am waiting for something that doesn't fall on its face when you hand it a file with nothing but free stations. (Star*Net handles those but none of the translators ever have.)
