Just got this in the word-of-the-day I get:
Aperçu/ ap-er-SOO
noun
1: a brief survey or sketch: outline

I always called those "mortgage surveys"...

Have seen thousands of them

Never knew what to call them.

Sort of like what do you call your aunt's third husband's daughter's husband's grandmother? If it's "my sister", we know where you live.

An aperçu is quick; a summary of straight to the point facts.

For example, a fireman coming to an emergency and talking with a colleague already working at the scene would be given an "aperçu" by that person.

A business balance sheet would be considered an aperçu.

The word is in the family of the verb "percevoir" (to perceive).

Ask Inspecteur Clouseau 😉
