At some point you have to let them take it, no instrument is worth getting stabbed/shot over.

Makes my soon to be ground control survey through Chicago and Detroit more like a chance to show someone what it feels like to get tazed.
I was working a job and my chief says..." What the hell...tilt limit????" and we looked over to some buffoon lifting up and moving the robot, to which I screamed in a rather menacing tone.... " WHAT THE F ARE YOU DOING!!!!!" to which he set it down and got back into his truck.......
Bring it!
?ÿ
good times.
Talk amongst yourselves...
Jeepers. Going by the side of the road they were driving on, and the comments, that occurred in England. Looks like the instrument/tripod was chained to the ground and that's why they couldn't get it. The guy at the end that appeared to scare off the attackers must have had some serious mojo.
If this was in the U S of A, one of them thugs woulda popped a cap?ÿdischarged a round from his 9 into the back of that poor bastids head - just sayin'.......

It appears to be cabled and locked to the fence, which is what I do with my robot and GPS base.?ÿ It's encouraging to see that the approach does seem to deter incompetent thieves.
Nothing?ÿwill make someone reconsider their choices like a face full of capsaicin. I've toyed with the idea of booby trapping a can of bear spray to explode if someone tried a grab and dash on my gear.?ÿMy luck though I'd end up nailing myself.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
We do the same but one time it didn't stop pros that cut the very thick cables with my guy walking about 500' away. He looked back to see why he lost lock.... gotta love Detroit surveys.
Most are snatch and grabs in Detroit so we hire an armed guard for our Total Stations. Luckily Michigan is all RTK work no base needed. Thanks MDOT.
