Deadwood BM 6193 (ca. 1898)

This is one of the iron post/brass cap bench marks that we found in the Black Hills. I really wanted to find the bearing trees, but it appears the fire got them. I show a picture of the stump with an indentation and some sap coming out. I would appreciate some thoughts about this from those of you who work in forested areas. This is out of my treeless Nebraska realm of expertise.
