I have been reading about the http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38203131&apos ;">Dakota Pipelines easement being declined by the ACOE. I've never worked a pipeline project, but don't you usually have that stuff worked out before you start laying pipe?

Yes, I believe it was already worked out, all that is left is the bore, from what I was told,,,,,,,,
But I didn't work on that one.

There's no doubt in my mind this has probably generated the "Mother of All Change Orders". I know nothing of this specific project but I'm sure the contract has lots of verbiage that will keep the GC from taking a bath. What I'm saying is this is gonna cost somebody a lot of money.

The sad part of that angle of the story is the sub-contractors that DON'T have those contingencies written into their contract. Without saying one way or the other as to whether I agree with the project or not; some hard working people are going to take a bath this winter because of the change.

Maybe it would be a good idea to include the same verbiage in their contracts; as the big boys....

But then; some folks aren't very good listeners:

I haven't kept up with this much mainly because the mainstream media has been following it but I can't hardly see them starting construction without having the permits for this section in place. I thought I had heard the USACOE had already reviewed this bore and approved it but were changing their mind due to the publicity. Which is ridiculous if it is true, they have people in place that are supposed to review these permits to protect the environment and they have intentionally held up projects of lesser concern. Keep in mind the landowners agreed to this route and later changed their mind
