That's really too bad. The Editor for the California Land Surveyor's Association (CLSA) publication "California Surveyor" visited the museum in 2010 and CLSA donated $25K to the cause. There is a nice article here, starting on page 6:

Sad to hear.

I know a lot of State Associations and many individuals gave them money.

Hopefully their collection will be preserved in some fashion.
