Crew is staking out some property corners for a new subdivision.
Concrete guy comes up and says; "You guys have done excellent work for us in the past but this stuff here you did?ÿis crap."
Party Chief; "We aren't staking any curb and gutter."
Concrete guy; "But you're here surveying."
Party Chief; "For the property corners on our plat. The contractor (them) hired out their own surveyor".
Concrete guy; "#$%&##" as he stomps off.
Sounds like you may be getting the next curb and gutter job.

We haven't been involved with the street improvements, the topo, boundary, platting and lot corners were plenty. I know that's what we would all prefer to do. If the contractor wants to hire out a layout guy there is plenty of site control set out there to use.

There was an old surveyor around here (now deceased) who would pull the frontage distance down the back of curb and then pull the offset (usually 13 feet for a 50 foot R/W) and drive a pin.?ÿ If you knew what he did it was usually pretty easy to follow his work.

Maybe in your area subdivisions are regular rectangular lots and blocks. Not so here. And what about the profile??ÿ

About twenty years ago we saw the platted lots snd improvements begin to separate. By now the disconnect is probably complete most places. In my opinion it has been an idiotic move.
There is no longer enough information on plan sets to stake improvements from street and lot control. Right-of-Ways are full of non-tangent curves, lot lines are not perpendicular or radial. Forget about handing a 'party chief' a set of house plans and a plat and having them stake for digging and construction.
I don't fault contractors for doing their own work. Many do it better than us, and pick up a shovel or hammer when there is nothing to stake. I do fault the Surveyors for the way we abdicated our control of platting.?ÿ
