I have a TSC1 running SCv7.72 that I use with a 4400 receiver for static work. I'm able to get the data out of the TSC1 using TGO or Data Transfer, but only via cable. I'd like to avoid having to bring the TSC1 into the office all the time, and instead just transfer the data using the PC card. However, the data appears to be stored in a .RAW file which neither TGO nor Data Transfer seems to recognize. My searches for information on the Trimble .RAW format haven't turned up anything useful.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
I'm in a learning process myself, so i only have more basic questions:
Is Trimble RAW the same as TDS RAW? I'm guessing they're different.
What is DAT (or Trimble DAT)?
Create a new device -
In Data Transfer, create a new device of the type "Survey Data Card" - give it the path that the PC Card will have when connected to your computer.
Then Data Transfer will (IIRC) convert the RAW file to a DAT file.
I will see if I can find an old RAW file to confirm this.
It may be that the RAW file is closely associated with the JOB file (which becomes the DC file on download) so that the RAW file is automagically converted to a DAT file when you import the JOB/DC file?
Will check that as well.

Very different, they just happen to share a file extension.

Again, there are several -- if not many -- file types with a DAT extension. Trimble DAT is a GPS data file that incorporates SV ephemeris data along with the observables in a single binary file.
OK, the second guess seems to be correct - download the job file and get the DAT file by reference/association.
I created a new job on the PC Card and logged data to the controller.
After ending the job, I put the PC Card in a reader, and created new device of the type "Survey Data Card" at the path where the PC Card in the reader was when connected to my computer.
Then in Data Transfer, I looked for files of type "Survey Controller Files" (make sure to set File format to "DC File v7.7").
Selected the job file which I created to store the data, told Data Transfer where to write the files.
Did the "Transfer All". The Transfer Completed dialog shows one file transferred, but in the folder where things were sent were both the JOB and the RAW file (that were on the PC Card) as well as the DC and DAT files we want.
Inspecting the DC file, there is a line
POST PROCESS Data file name 87100880
which is consistent with the file-naming convention - last four digits of serial number (of the TSC1 in this case), then the day of year, and finally the session of the day beginning at zero.
That is how Data Transfer knows to drag along the correct RAW file.
The naming of the JOB files on the PC Card (as seen in Windows Explorer) is a bit confusing as they are simply numbered. But when you look at them using Data Transfer you see the name(s) you gave the job(s).

Glenn, that's great!
Thanks for steering me though this -- it worked like a charm.
thanks, jim
Hi,
I am trying to do the above but it does not seem to be working
Using Trimble Data Transfer
Trimble TSC1 running version 7.71
Trimble 4700 receiver
I see the raw and job files on the card
Log file says 1 file recieved, no error
In the destination folder I see the dc and job file but not the raw or dat
Any insight would be appreciated, I am trying to use fixdattgo to post process some data collected in 2012 and have not been able to figure out how to get the rover data into the app.
As an update to my previous post, the data transfer utility succesfuly brings raw and dat files collected before I reinstalled the survey controller software in an attempt to troubleshoot the failure of baseline processing (Trimble did not notify me and we use the equipment sporadically), but only dc and job files collected after.
Any guess as to why the raw files are not being written to the datalogger?
Had rover option "logging device" set to receiver instead of controller.
