The larger of the above signatures (with rubric) is the clue. What is the connection between the fellow who signed this document in Spanish in 1824 and a certain American singer who just wanted to have some fun?
Kent, when I was in grade school in Ft. Worth we were taught Texas History and had to sing “The Eyes of Texas are Upon You” but sadly it did not prepare me for this moment. I think this is going to go deeper than the fact that Sheryl has performed many times in a city named after Steve, isn’t it? Y’all call him “Steve”, right?
> I think this is going to go deeper than the fact that Sheryl has performed many times in a city named after Steve, isn’t it?
Yes, Mike there's a better connection than the fact that Sheryl Crow played gigs in Austin and lived here for a while.
> Y’all call him “Steve”, right?
Estevan F. Austin (the empressario formerly known as "Stephen F. Austin") worked hard at becoming a citizen of Mexico. He learned Spanish and I think converted to Catholicism.
According to Mr. Smarty Pants........Sheryl Crow is a direct descendant of Stephen F. Austin.
> Sheryl Crow is a direct descendant of Stephen F. Austin.
Yes, she said as much when she appeared on Austin City Limits.
" Sheryl Crow is a direct descendant of Stephen F. Austin."
"Yes, she said as much when she appeared on Austin City Limits."
I wonder what she considers "direct" to be?
According to Wikipedia "In December 1836, Austin was in the new capital of Columbia now known as West Columbia) where he caught a severe cold; his condition worsened. Doctors were called in, but could not help him. Austin died of pneumonia at noon on December 27, 1836, at the home of George B. McKinstry right outside of what is now West Columbia, Texas. Austin's last words were "The independence of Texas is recognized! Don't you see it in the papers?..." Upon hearing of Austin's death, Houston ordered an official statement proclaiming: "The Father of Texas is no more; the first pioneer of the wilderness has departed." Austin was originally buried at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Brazoria County, Texas. Austin's body was moved, however, in 1910 to the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
Austin died without having produced offspring, and bequeathed all his land, titles, and possessions, to his sister, Emily Austin Perry."
So I guess if she was born in Texas (oops,Kennett, Missouri) she might consider herself to be the daughter of "The Father of Texas". Otherwise, I would just consider it another one of her many attempts to bask in the spotlight.
Ah...but Stephen Austin and his father Moses, came from Potosi, Missouri...which is not all THAT far from Kennett.....
Mr. Berry,
There is a well know facility at Huntsville. Is THAT where you are from?
And here all this time, since you were . . . what? 20 or so?, I thought you were a native Orgonian.
Silly me.
geezer
No Jerry, not Huntsville. Both sides of my family were from St. Johns Oregon, but my dad was career Army so we moved around a lot, not returning to Oregon until I was 18. So I consider myself a Japanese born 3rd generation hostile native Oregonian who didn't set foot in the state until I was 18. I was only here 3 or 4 years until I had to suffer under the iron fisted rule of the Iowa Geezer party chief.

Jeff, you should know by now that if the record is faulty, it must be corrected. I have already filed an affidavit in the Wisconsin Miscellaneous Records stating that Sheryl Crow publicly asserted descent from Stephen F. Austin, so that should settle all of the questions of fact you raise.

Kent,
You forgot to add in the other tired references that would help him understand, namely:
Alienation
ALTA/ACSM instructions
"Use it or Lose it" in the Apr 2006 issue of Tierra Grande
Justice Cooley
Of course, he could've simply obtained affidavits stating as much from the winos living next door to her.
Perhaps Mr. Austin had some illegitimate children during his formative years. Many men have had relations with a woman and then not seen her routinely over the next nine months or so to validate the lack of conception from said relations.

Breysacher, you dippy idiot! All DNA is allodial in the United States! Stephen F. Austin had an unconditional right to dispose of his personal DNA as he saw fit!

Aww, you got me Mr. Allodial. To hell with those idiotic courts and case law, they don't know what they're talking about.

All DNA? I was under the impression that male DNA was alluvial.

In Texas, one has to distinguish the DNA that is perennial from that which is torrential. Alternate principles apply depending in part upon the average distance to the nearest Margarita.
If the record is faulty, Jeff
Sorry to have been so long in getting back to you, but I am just getting back in. If you have in fact filed the Affidavit as you claim to have, then I will just have to stand corrected. Sorry to have jumped to the conclusion and thank you for setting the record straight.
Austin City Limits
Speaking of Austin City Limits, we have a friend, Sabrina, an Austin TX native, who moved to Oregon in the mid 1980s. A couple years ago a circa 1982 Austin City Limits “encore” aired and a camera panning the audience lingered for a while on non-other than Sabrina (she is really, really pretty). When asked about it she remembered that concert and the TV shot and her 1.5 seconds of fame.
