I have a Sokkia Set 30R series instrument that will not communicate with either a Carlson Surveyor+ or SDR33. I have checked all the communication settings and they appear to be correct, I wanted to see if anyone had good suggestions before I send it out to get worked on.

bad cable? bad cable socket on the Sokkia?
I have one of the same series.
Everyone of my 6 cables fit loose on the socket of that instrument and is always the problem spot when the connection is lost.
The Sokkia Set 4 connection is more snug and rarely a problem.
Fairly certain its the serial port, taking it in tomorrow. I was hoping someone would have some miracle fix!
Electrical contact cleaner. it is about 16 bucks a bottle @ Radio Shack. Clean all connections well, jiggle it, check it.
