I recently upgraded my computer to a 64 bit machine with windows 7. CMM (version 2.0.2)keeps giving me errors every time i try to do anything with it. I realize the program is dated but was wondering if anyone had a fix for this.
I do have access to Star*Net but i am unfamiliar with it. does Star*net allow you to take your balanced traverse and run a positional tolerance of the traverse to the plan position of the control???

Sorry, no help here. My programming skills are not up to the task.
Just want to lament that I was very dissappointed when I discovered that CMM, CEFB and ASTRO weren't being supported to accomodate hardware advances. Good bunch of software that was very valuable to the PLSS surveyor. Too bad the BLM hasn't wanted to continue the product support of these very specialized tools.
If you have Win7 Pro (or better) you can install the "virtual machine" and run 32bit XP on it. Your old program should run fine there.
As for StarNet, you can certainly run your new data with existing control held fixed and get an "adjustment" report that would show residuals without any actual adjusting being done.

I don't believe its a matter of "wanting" as much as it is a matter of "funding."

Same with CORPSCON. Wish it would get some updating. Wouldn't take much.
Try right clicking on the icon and look for "Trouble Shooting Compatibility". This will make CORPSCON act right and will probably fix your CMM trouble. Just accept whatever recommendation Windows suggests.
If it's a 32 bit v. 64 prob got to Control Panel, programs, programs and features, Run programs made for previous versions, programs capability features.
Hope that helps.

Try right clicking the icon and "run as administrator". It works for me when I run Survcadd 2006, it also works on several other older programs I have.

Wouldn't it be worthwhile to just have a station with XP on it?
WinCMM runs fine on my 64-bit machine. Many of the programs you need to prepare the input files, however, won't run on a 64-bit machine no matter what you do. It is really easy though to take your old .lsa and .zzz files and re-format them as Star*Net input. I do that a lot when adding new data to old networks. Anyway, if you are familiar with WinCMM, learning Star*Net should be a breeze: input files in, adjust, results out. The only thing I really miss about WinCMM is the loop-checking routines. New Alta accuracy standards require that relative ellipses BETWEEN your monuments (points defining the boundary) be computed, which WinCMM can't do for you, so now may be a good time to move on.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
I went to "Run programs made for previous version" and seems to work ok now. had to run as administrator. It would be nice if BLM would update the software as I like the versatility of the program. I am working on the automation of the input from the data collector to have the raw file input edit routine convert the data collection to an LSA file for CMM to read.
