I was on Surv-Kap's site and saw this.

Anyone seen or used one?

Ignore negative polarity?

I see the add claims that the bottom of the fence post is negative polarity and the tops of irons are positive. So the device ignores negative polarity. What if the fence installers put the post in upside-down?

Yep. I have one and I love it. Does take a little experience to get the hang of it though.

It's no Schonstadt, but it works.

These used to be marketed under the MagnaWand brand.

I've had one for at least 10 years. I like it a lot.

It has saved me a ton of shovel work by pointing to pins located next to many types of metal fencing.

I highly recommend it. If mine breaks or gets stolen, I'll buy another one.

In fact, I just might buy another one just to be sure I can count on having one for the future. I can't imagine not having the ability to pin point the vertical flux component of a magnetic field as part of a surveyors tools.

Andy

Should be observant enough to notice that and just hold the thing from the dirty end. Piece of cake.

Ignore negative polarity?

Do they sell a different model for use in the Southern hemisphere?

Ignore negative polarity?

Good thinking Jud.

Don't get me talking electrical issues, it is a weak subject of mine. I have a working knowledge, but the theory of electricity somewhat eludes me. I thought magnetic polarity was relative to N/S poles. Now, I might imagine that a rod stuck in the ground is ground at the bottom and positive at the top. What's the relationship, if any, between magnetic polarity and electrical polarity? Where's an EE when you need one.
