We were hired to develop a Cemetary Plan of a small cemetary of about two hundred existing graves- I wanted to go on this one - thought it would be interesting, and it was - Basically we are to come up with a plan for future plots along with a log system of some sort- we located all visible existing plots and headstones- this cemetary dates back to mid 1800's - there were numerous unmarked graves, all which will be indicated - a few pictures attached -

and of course we had evidence of the fence builder at work while tying down some boundary of the cemetary site- notice the capped rod stuck between the wire and post floating about 3 " off the ground:excruciating: <img src="""
record distance puts it at the base of the chan link

Cemetery Plan- yesterday's work

Just got back from laying out a few corner stones in the local cemetery myself.

Just make sure you spell cemetery right on the plan.

Dude, glad it's you and not me. The last FIVE cemeteries we've done were fitting a S/D plat to existing graves, then creating new plots and setting corners.

The last one, we set baselines so strings could be used to locate old or new grave sites. We drove 90 iron rods in about a half a day using a chain. 6' pulls suck!

we have been asked to stake the outside corners of blocks of plots but not each one - the association will then come in and layout as needed and set small markers to identify each plot.

We've done it both ways. Setting hundreds of bars gets old very quickly, especially in Summer with dry soil.

Cemetery Plan- yesterday's work

I have 2 cemetery surveys going on right now. Kinda a filler when I am slow, but not been slow for 6 months. Have done my best to figure out probably 6 others.

So many little towns around here that have all but dried up and blown away except the community cemetery still exists.

I do not like doing this at all, but I guess it goes along with being the only surveyor in town.

Usually there is little payment to be had, but it sometimes generates some business from a ranch family in the area.

They are usually a mess and they got away from their plan a long time ago.

Randy

The very first cemetery job I did was many years ago but I remember it well. Much like yours, there was more cemetery land than occupied area. In one corner there were very few graves so as we located them we would also note the name on the stone. The third or fourth stone I came to had MY NAME ON IT! And it was already occupied!

my cemetery plot layout. & my eternal resting place

Layed out this 10 x 16 plot yesterday for a lady just up the road who died recently. Strangely enough, she died in a car accident on Martha's Vinyard on land owned by the Kennedys.

You can just see the sod cut for the one of the corner stones that are being set today or tomorrow.

My eternal resting place is the plot just behind the plot that I layed out. Not a bad spot for eternity

my cemetery plot layout. & my eternal resting place

over the years I have mixed emotions about being buried or cremated- lately, dont know why, I am not liking being laid in a box in the ground- I have told my wife I want to be cremated and place on a shelf at the head of her bed:-O
