I have the opportunity (?) to purchase a Carlson Explorer/Windows CE Ver. 4.20, with SurvCE Ver. 2.52.16. Will be using with Topcon 301D and/or Wild T1000. No robotics/GPS.

PROS/CONS ??
Thanks, Jim

It was a good collector when new. They aren't as tough as most other collectors on the market. The processor and ram are pretty much maxed out with version 2.X SurvCe. If the price is right and the unit is in good condition, it should work well with most total stations. If any of the rubber bumpers on the corners are missing, the unit most likely has internal moisture damage and should be avoided unless you are just buying it for the software value. Carlson will let you transfer software from a dying unit to another. I would check the software serial number with Carlson to verify ownership of the software before purchasing.

Thanks, Kevin. I think Carlson is asking about $150.00 for upgrade, so I will probably pass on this one.
Regards, Jim
