This grid line was 12.5'. Cuts were 12'. At the rate they brought it on site the fab wasn't done in China.?ÿ
Gotta love today's construction environment. Most projects around here are labeled "Design-Build", meaning the plan changes nearly every week.
When I get instruction for layout, the first thing I contact the site super for confirmation we are both reading the same contract plans. Many times I don't have enough info for the layout. Yet the excavator has already begun digging from a 6-month-old 3d model. I've had to tell that excavator (the bad news) to move more structures on this project than I care to count.
The majority of layout blunders are a failure of information management in my experience.
I wonder if things are getting better or worse with the advancements and adoption of cloud storage and virtual environments.
It is tempting for me to say that they are getting worse, but I am not certain. Perhaps all the old rules still apply and it is really a matter of having the correct protocol in place for processing data in and out.?ÿ
Our manholes for SW Ontario are made in India.?ÿ The Hamilton steel mill is approximately 1.5 hours away.?ÿ For an American, it would be the equivalent of Pennsylvania sourcing all their manhole lids from India when the Pittsburgh mills were beginning to wind down (ie. the late 80's).?ÿ Just seems funny to have it made 1/2 way across the world when your neighbour can do it for you.
Hamilton Steel Mill. Manhole lids and frames are cast iron. That's a big difference.?ÿ
