I was ratting thru some old tranist notes and came across this old student book with some grades- the project is from 1935 time frame.
The beginning & ending sheets (not just the covers) are ads for K& E products.
They where all black and white, but the target on the philly rod ad was tinted red, the text around the "extra fine Tranist" was red, and there was red tinting on the paragon drafting paer had some red.
Sorry- but my scanner is B/W.
I thought they were kind of cool so I posted them-
I agree that is cool.I would like to have that transit.
That is cool.
Good old days.
I miss 'em.

I Had Always Wondered what a Tranist Looked Like
Thanks for the explanation. So a tranist was nearly identical to a transit as far as outward appearances went? Good to know. :>
I remember "Grab the white face" from my chainman days.
neat-o

This is a vintage 1939 example of the transit in the book. It is well used but still turns great angles. BTW... what is the angle right it is showing?
The verniers on this transit are solid silver. They knew how to build things to last back in the day. Also, the compass needle is gold plated.

I'd go with 283° if I'm reading it "right".(?) (or 282°59'?)
282°59' is correct.. good job
Can't really see the vernier on the left end but it can be deduced by looking at the other side of the scale.
77°01'00"

282-59-00
turn to the right, read to the left
(every time I look, I get something different)
> 77°01'
left (and I wouldn't add the seconds. You are only reading to the nearest minute.)
I know, Adam, it's the old habit.... interpolate a few seconds in there!!!
