we set this corner in 2009. Set an Ac in a monument box over an original stone, we recovered buried deep under the shoulder of the highway.
Fast forward to last Friday- I'm cominfg home from the 'Root and see a baby 'vator parked with some construction fabric fence, and my mon box sitting on the shoulder, with my pipe sticking out of the hole..... :'( :'( :'( 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

follow-up has revealed no-one has done any side ties on it... although the excavator operator assured me that they didn't disturb the pipe when they removed the box, or set and back-filled the drop inlet... :-/

so looks like I'll be doing some checks on it after project completion....
on the brighter side....
huckle berries are out.

Now that's funny!!!
You probably checked to see if it's pointing correctly, always a dead give away
Ok, so the mon box is disturbed. Around here we call those contractor types "erasers". Once it's gone, it's gone, along with your liability. But the catch basin in BFE doesn't seem to be able to catch much water. Maybe there is a different gravity in Kalispel....;-)
I thought those were Blueberries until I read they were Huckleberries. Kinda cool. I used to have big old Mulberry tree and even tried making jam once. Then I just let the birds poop on the neighbors truck.

One of life's little pleasures when I was a kid. They are labor intensive since there's a little green stem on each berry that need removed. I guess Momma Cash got some peace and quiet by setting us all down to pick the stems!
It was all well worth the time.
Many fond memories of surveying up in the Bitterroots for the USFS involve those huckleberries. Great way to find a bear this time of year as I recall. We had a camp cook who made sure we had plenty of huckleberries in our morning pancakes. She was the best.
Nothing would shut down the L line survey like running into a nice patch that the bears had not found yet.
Time to empty the canteens and pick berries for Mable.. yummy fresh huckleberry pie, muffins and of course.. pancakes
Is the cap oriented correctly? Every surveyor should ALWAYS orient their caps a certain direction when set if they are not section corners where they are obvious that they have been disturbed. I discovered caps rotated one time where the fence builder pulled the monuments, set the corner post and then reset the capped pipe off to the side.

Sounds like momma Cash is a keeper. Stems and all. Good job Charlie.....;-)
I kinda miss my old Mulberry tree, but now I get to try and gnaw on a prickly pear cactus something or other. They make jelly from it, but it seems to settle in my tummy and make it bigger. Go figure...lol

that's the problem- It wont be "Gone"- It'll be right there looking like everything is great.....
Gone is definitely better than "present and jacked up".. 🙁
