I use three Promark 2 units to establish vertical control mainly for elevation certificates. My typical procedure is to set two of the units up on know benchmarks and one unit at the site. When I reduce the data I start by holding one of the known benchmarks horizontally and vertically and see how I hit the other know point. Well on this particular job, (which is one of the first times I've used the latest Solutions GNNS instead of the old Solutions), I processed the data and hit the second known point extremely well horizontally and within about a .10 vertically. Then I held the second point as a control point also and re-processed and adjusted and noticed that it changed the third unknown point's ortho height by almost 0.75' and the vertical residual went from a couple hundredths to 0.15. I know there is a lot information left out, but has anyone experienced anything like this?

I don't use GNNS so my comments are based on TGO and Topcon Tools.

After you did the first processing and adjustment then did you clear the adjustment and start from scratch on the second adjustment.

I've seen weird stuff when you don't start from scratch when adjusting and holding different points if you don't clear out the first adjustment.

Just a suggestion but start a new project and try your second adjustment from that and see how it hits.

If it hits fine then you know it's something in the software that is still holding on to something causing the problem.

You Only Hold One Point Fixed

If you hold both fixed it can warp the results. I had this happen to me years ago using 3 PM2s with Ashtech Solutions. I used 2 township intervisible monuments about a mile East of my project. I held both fixed and my site position was well off the mean of the site position holding the monuments individually. I still use Ashtech Solutions for the majority of my work since I am much more comfotable with it. In GNSS Solutions go to "Control Points" and change the "Constraints" on the right side of the screen.

As Deral says clear your results, under the "Projects" pulldown, "Clear Process Results" and "Clear Adjustment Results". Once or twice with GNSS Solutions I have had to start a new project, which you can do in the same project folder.

Yes, I hit the clear adjustment and then the clear processed vectors buttons, but I will try a new project and see if the problem persist. Is it a bad idea to hold two monuments fixed? Should I just hold one and make any adjustment I want in CAD after I insert the points? I like standard Ashtech Solutions better, but can't find a copy of it. Does anyone know where I can download that from?

Hold One, Get Solution, Clear, Hold Other, Get Solution

Mean the 2 Solutions.

Now you hold your meaned solution as fixed and see how close both control ties are.

Makes me happy.

BTW, after you clear Process Results and Adjustment Results you change your control point settings then run Process and Adjust again.

Hold One, Get Solution, Clear, Hold Other, Get Solution

Thanks Paul. Thats what I've done in the past with old Solutions without any problems. I'm having trouble getting old Solutions to install, but I'm going to try a go back to it as Solutions GNNS is a little fancy for just processing L1 static data.

Hold One, Get Solution, Clear, Hold Other, Get Solution

After re-reading your post I guess that isn't how I've done it in the past, but I'll give it a try.

Thanks
Kelly

I know I'm being a pain, but I can't seem to get the program to install. From the FTP I right clicked "save target as" all the files to a folder on my desktop. Then I clicked the setup icon and setup prompted me for a language after which I get the warning "Setup is unable to find _SETUP.DLL". I noticed all the .cab files showed up with Winzip icons, but when I try to unzip I get an error that Winzip cannot unzip the files, so then I uninstalled Winzip and tried the setup again with the same results.
Any suggestions?

Thanks
Kelly Dunford

I copied the CD files directly to my hard drive and installed it from there with no problem. The program will only work in demo mode unless you have a serial number.

Kelly, Send Me Your Observation Files

And I'll see if it jams up my GNSS Solutions V 3.10.13. I am waiting for others to use V 3.50 before I load it.

I feel your pain. Ashtech Solutions is the most user friendly post processing program I have used. An the colors make it much clearer.

I have not yet been sucessful in loading Geoid09 in A.S. but that is my goal.

Kelly, I've Got Them

I will start with only your B, D & E files.

BTW, you files all end with 320, but the only almanac file you have is for 322?

I will start out with the rapid orbit, anyway.
