Anyone got the XP or Win7 driver for the ACT-IR200L infrared link?

I am not aware of any drivers except for the software download package that came with AS. Now the only device I know works is serial so you may have to have drivers for a USB-Serial cable. I am not aware of any way to use a USB version of the interface, would be nice though.

So far I have tried both Locus Processor and GNSS Solutions 2.6 on three different computers, two with a usb adapter (came with units and said to work) and one with a proper serial port.

The software sees the IR dongle and tries to reach the Locus units at various baud rates, but never connects. Of three Locus units, one doesn't work at all with fresh batteries, the other two turn on and act as if they are collecting and storing data, but so far I can't get the data.

Last thing to test is to ask the boss if he still has the computer that was last known to talk to the Locus units, and try that.

Even if you have more time than money there's a cut-your-losses point on old equipment, I guess. Trade ya three dead Loci for a peanut prism ...

Weird, when I have "issues" with the IR device, I usually get a message saying "IR Device can not be found", or some such thing, before it even attempts to download. If you get to the point where it's cycling through the baud rates trying to make a connection, then it means that it has at least found the IR device and recognizes it (Drivers working, I think). Sometimes I've found that turning the unit off, then back on, will clear up comm issues ... Other than that, if the units are on, and aimed fairly close the IR device, I've never seen it not work. I've downloaded Locus in XP for years. Still do it on my laptop.

Doh!

I just remembered there is a download patch for XP / Ashtech Solutions

Go here:

ftp://ftp.ashtech.com/Land%20Survey/Older%20Products/

Under Ashtech Solutions (you can download the full version of Ashtech Solutions (L1 only) by the way), there is a "Software" folder that has a zipped "Ashtech Solutions Download Patch", and instructions on how to install it.

Huh! maybe now I'm getting somwhere. I missed that there is a software in between Locus Processor and GNSS Solutions, which is Ashtech Solutions? and the version numbers are similar, 2.6 and 2.7?

The error message in the technical note
ftp://ftp.ashtech.com/Land%20Survey/Older%20Products/Ashtech%20Solutions/Application%20Notes/Ashtech%20Solutions%20Technical%20Note%20July2004.PDF
is exactly what I am getting.

Yes, that's what I did. As the technical note says, you have to download those two files (they are in the zipped folder under software) from the Ashtech FTP, then overwrite them in the program folder. Let us know if it works for you. BTW, I could never get the software to work right on Windows 7. You're probably better off trying to run this on an XP machine if you have one.

FWIW, place the Locus receivers upside down on the table with the IR puck about 8" (er, 0.7') away from the receiver for the best download results; the receivers aren't trying to lock on to SVs through your roof and the tops of the receivers have the 3 little fillets that suggest they were meant to be placed upside down.

Sill nothing working. Wondering if the IR sensors are kaput. Guess I'll drop an email to that stereo place in Maine that repairs the IR on these units.

Back to plan A ...

Pete used one of my receivers as a test case to perfect the process of replacing the IR transceiver.

Works great!
