"I'm curious, how were you planning to synchronize the nodes of your network? Are you even aware that they need to be synchronized? Are you aware that the conventional solution to node synchronization is GPS? Obviously using GPS would be difficult for you. Perhaps you were planning to use sundials?"

Thanks for the link, Richard! Great comments.

Can someone explain to the dumb guy who doesn't

use survey-grade GPS; what's going on?

What is the probability of all the existing survey-grade GPS equipment becoming obsolete?

not obsolete, they are basically taking the L1 signal. L1 is a more robust/strong signal compared to L2, yet not as precise. L1/L2 (dual frequency) antennas are just the rat's whiskers

However some receivers manufactured to capture these signals also capture the new broadband network’s signals creating the possibility of interference. The GPS industry has used this issue as a basis for a campaign to block further development of this new network.

HAAA, its not the "new broadband networks signals" dummy... it the GPS band signals... the new broadband network does not yet exist!

The article at your link pretty well sums it up, Eric was at the GPS USer Group meeting in Bend last Friday and pretty much said the same things there. Every surveyor should read that article and respond.
