I once had a guy argue with me over cost who told me "for that amount, I can go out and buy a decent GPS and do it myself". I said "Good luck, thank you for calling".
One year later he called back and I ended up doing it for more than the original amount. 🙂
Reminds me of a time when I was working for an A&E firm, my boss asked me to stake a property line on a parcel he had recently surveyed. It was in addition to the contract, and the boss didn't have time to work it in. I called the client and gave him what I considered to be a very good price, especially since I had to pay someone to help me. Clint get mad, yells at me, and then finally asks me to cut my price by 25%. I told him have a nice day.
The boss asked why I didn't do the job. I said he didn't like my price. Boss says no, he hated your price. I think someone from another crew did the work.
Many years ago, a former client who was part owner of an oil and gas exploration company, called and wanted one iron pin set at a specific location in a land drilling unit. The point needed to be xxx feet from the east boundary line of a section of land, and xxx feet from the north boundary line of an interior plss line. No price was discussed, just go do it. So, I set the pin and provided the plat and invoice.
Wow........you would have thought that I had demanded his firstborn and a left kidney by his reaction. I tried to explain to him the liability on my part for marking on the ground one point where a million dollar well was going and certifying, signing and sealing a plat that says that point is where the plat said it was. It was only one point, but......
Like I said, he is a FORMER client. Heck, he could had six wells staked for what mine cost him. And to think, I was worried about not charging enough compared to the liability on my shoulders. Good riddance!
Was the realtor getting a "full-on" commission?
I wonder if the realtor's client was able to negotiate a less than "full-on" commission.
Oil men and horse traders. Two of a kind. A kind to avoid.
He should just ask a Realtor. Around here, I'm always told by the client that the Realtor marked the boundaries.
> >might have taken out a lot corner monument. She didn't understand that.

> Jeez ... anybody should be able to understand that.
You would think so, but I just don't think it was sinking in.
"Heck, he could had six wells staked for what mine cost him"
They don't understand what it takes to make the necessary boundary ties to the property to be able to begin making any location.
The next five location in that field are usually a snap to set.
