Does this mean we no longer have to worry about LightSquared? Time will tell.
It isn't yet clear why the FCC ignored its own procedures in early 2011 by giving a fast-track approval for LightSquared's 40,000 ground-based stations with an effective billion-fold increase in power, which were not part of their original licensing application. Freedom of Information requests have been filed for FCC documents that might answer that question, but the documents they have released so far have not been relevant.
If and when the facts emerge, we may well learn that experienced FCC staff, who must have known this was a bad idea, were overruled by Genachowski, who is said to be a political appointee with strong Wall Street connections.
An end to the LightSquared problem? NOT LIKELY!!
Based on recent nominations it is likely this will be the beginning of a more aggressive push for "improvements" in wireless communications. Users of GPS should watch the nominations and be ready to respond if needed.
Surveyors are second rate citizens
They can be walked on, and pushed around.
People with money, are doing it now, and will continue.
Heck, they may take all our spectrum, so they can text each other, from all over to all over, at a high speed!
And, EVERYBODY has to facebook.
Priorities, people priorities!

Any tool that they take away from the surveyors should only increase our fees in order to retool.
