Must have been a long wait for the pilot car if you had time to build a big fire.

Is he wearing Vibram Five Fingers in that last picture? I've often wondered how those would be in the field.

They're incredibly comfortable once your feet get used to not having all the extra support of insoles and such. For what we were doing on this job they were great. Although my toes did get a little cold the last couple of days once the snow started flying.

Daryl,

Thanks for the great pictures. I, and most everybody else, would love to read a narrative of the methods and procedures you used for this survey. Also I bet you have some great stories to tell about the work and living in the wild on the jobs. If you ever get time and inclination to write something it would be a BIG HIT. It might be a best seller in book form. I would buy it. Thanks again for the pictures and story. It always leaves me wishing for more.

Mike Evans

Black Butte = good stuff.

I have a Hiper XT exactly like that; that could be me measuring the ARP height.

I also am typing on a 17" hp pavilion which looks like the one in one of the photos (above the passenger seat of the RV).

Absolutely top drawer as always. Have to ask, what photographic gear do you use? A friend who is a professional photographer always gets forwarded links of your shots and I am finding out photobugs as just as big on gear as musicians.

He has convinced me my 100 dollar Kodak is not going to cut it.

The picture of the jay and the Doritos brought to mind Pat Conroy's 'Prince of Tides'
where the tiger eats the seal, never in the natural order of the universe were these two things intended to meet.

Daryl, Doug 'n Dave...

I concur - Black Butte Porter is a good beer. It was Deschutes Brewery’s flagship export in past years. The best beer they’ve made to date was “The Abyss” - like a rich, complex and fragrant mule hoof hitting your face at the apex of its kick.
