Alabama removed the requirement to take a standards of practice course every 4 years.
Thank you.
One down, who knows how many to go.
I think that you forgot "Roll Tide Roll!" 🙂
That would be against my religion.
When did that happen? I was scheduled to take it next year.... Is there a replacement "course" or just more PDU's to get?
There is no replacement required. I think they will still be offered but not as often. You still must earn 15 units each year.
I understand the BOL made the decision because they were spending a lot of time dealing with enforcing the rule.
That explains why it wasn't on the website when I renewed a couple of days ago. I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned. Thanks!
About 10 AM this morning when I was renewing it occurred to me that I hadn't taken it. I panicked a little because the late fee is $250.
I would think that the ASPLS would let us know about things...Has anyone else licensed in Bama heard about this before? i might just have been in the dark.
I believe that I first read about the change in the ASPLS "Turning Points" this summer or fall. Not sure if I received an e-mail or letter about it, but I was surprised by the change. Not at all disappointed with the decision, I wish FL, GA and IL would follow suit.
Look on page 8 of the Board's Bulletin (Sept 2014 issue)
Removal of Requirement for Standards
of Practice Course for Professional Land Surveyors
The requirement for Professional Land Surveyors to take a
six hour course on the Standards of Practice for Land Surveying
in Alabama was removed. This also applies to the
requirement for newly licensed professional land surveyors
to complete the course within two of receiving their
professional land surveyor license.

You've got that right. Illinois is the worst though, because in this modern age, they make you go sit down and listen to someone cover the standards. Florida has its own set of problems.
You're so right, Tommy. Six hours of standards/ethics in person, and no more than 10 hours of online stuff for Illinois. As for Florida, continuing ed providers must be a great money maker for the state folks. Hate the BS that everything has to be pre-approved. On the plus side, pretty much anything I take in Florida, with the exception of laws/MTS, can be used to fulfill all but the state specific stuff of the other states.
