Anyway to get them back!!!!!! Deleted by mistake...and Kevin is in panic mode! Any secret folder that a copy might be in, like a recyle bin?
It should be in your backup, assuming you made one. :rain:
Ahhh - a comedian.....Not In The Mood!;-)
No, sorry to say, once it's gone, it's gone. It's nit like a hard drive, its more like a thumb drive.
Sorry to be the one to tell you.
Do you sync up each time you download?
That's what I am discovering from my other inquiries... I told him it's sure to go faster the second time :-S
Yes, but these were never downloaded from the TSC2...
It is BEER LEG time!!!!
The old fashioned Beer Leg = Set the tripod up over the chain...
The New Beer Leg = DELETE THE .DC and .JOB file from the TSC2
It is a Friday...the crew will drink beer all weekend...all on the PC...and like you say...THE SECOND TIME WILL BE FASTER...
:beer: :beer::beer::beer::beer:
And when the PC pulls out the 'old fashioned' field book with all of the measurements...WE WILL BY HIS BEER!!!!
ouch, I lost 10 hours of very boring topo one time. 8 hours the first day and into it 2 hours the next day when the SDR31 cold booted (it had a bad wire or something).
Now I have multiple copies of every raw data file. My co-workers think I'm nuts but they haven't lost over a day of field work apparently. The new DCs are much better now but I still don't trust them with my only copy.
It did go a lot faster the second time because you already know where you are going to put your control points and how you are going to do the job, etc. No need to set points and so on because they are already there.
Not sure about the TSC2, but the TSC1 one has an undelete function under "files" and "file manager", I would be surprised if they got rid of that option. Good luck.
Oops, it is a softkey under "job management". It is Friday after all.

Have you called Trimble? Flash drive deletes can be restored. I bet there is a way that the files can be restored. I do know that when a file is 'deleted' the first character is just removed from the file name and that hides the file. The files are probably there and will remain so until a reformat is done.
Dont give up yet.
Could try Raise Data Recovery for Mobile?
There are several utilities that are claimed to be able to recover deleted Windows Mobile 5.0 files from a memory card, but here the deleted files were in the main memory.
The publisher of Raise Data Recovery for Mobile claims their product can recover deleted files from main memory on SOME Windows Mobile devices. Apparently you run the program from a memory card when attempting to recover files from the main memory. Since the main memory in the TSC2 is flash memory there is a chance this could work. Especially if it uses a FAT or FAT-like format.
Please post back if you find a solution. AFAIK Trimble / TDS / Spectra Precision has always maintained there is no way to recover the deleted files from the TSC2 and its variants.
In the past we tried a file-management utlity (don't recall the name now - that was years ago) that added a Recycle Bin to Windows Mobile, but that worked only if you actually used that utility to delete the file. If you deleted the file from within Survey Controller (the usual situation) the file was gone to data heaven even though there was a Recycle Bin.
In the meantime, I will write up instructions for installing and using a free automatic backup program that may save someone some time and grief the next time this happens.

Nice try, but no cigar!
Apparently the Trimble TSC2 isn't one of the devices on which Raise Data Recovery for Mobile can recover files deleted from main memory.
RDRM allows a trial use limited to recovering files less than 64 kB, so I gave it a shot. It does not recognize the main memory, so no go.

Nice try, but no cigar!
Thanks for all the replys/ideas...Kevin is in the field today, re-doing the work. It was about two days worth originally, location and topo for four small existing well sites. But control points are already set, property corner monumentation re-conned...looks like he'll be finished late today (he is motivated by not wanting to miss playing golf tomorrow!). The worst part will be having the homeowners come out and say "why are you back again, you were just here last week, blah, blah, blah".
Nice try, but no cigar!
The satellites didn't align properly with Jupiter which was only in the 6th house so we have to do the job again.
Nice try, but no cigar!
Tell them it was due to poor PDOP. I find that covers about 80% of the 'why are you doing that again?' questions.
Backup that data collector!
In case anyone is following this thread -
As promised earlier in this thread I have prepared and posted detailed instructions for installing PIM Backup, a free backup utility for devices running the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, on the Trimble TSC2 / Survey Controller data collector.
The instructions document (PDF) is on the Inland GPS support page for Survey Data Collectors and Field Software. Click the link titled "PIM Backup on Trimble TSC2 / Survey Controller data collector".
Implementing a backup-and-recovery strategy is cheap insurance for your valuable survey data.
It is hoped this document will help someone avoid the grief and waste (of both time and money) caused by lost or unrecoverable data.

Backup that data collector!
Thanks Glenn!! We will check it out.
