Does anyone know what "Clum" stands for? The benchmark is Federal, on Aqua Caliente Peak, Pima County AZ.
CLUM is the name of the station, which is a First-order triangulation station established by the former Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1947.
Here's the data sheet, less the "to reach" directions:

It is not a bench mark
And Heidi's is spelled with a "K" !
"It is a darn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word." Andrew Jackson
That seems likely.
It is primarily a triangulation station, having accurate horizontal coordinates.
However, it does have a NAVD88 elevation, although only VERTCON accuracy, so it could also be called a bench mark without much stretch of the term.
Could it be in honor of this guy?

Never mind, done been said. When I posted my browser appeared as just the original post. I got something goofy going on here.
I've got no idea, but am amazed at some of the names old timers named their sacred points we all love and live by. Scratch your head and say "yes I found it". Toss in a tip of the hat to the big guy up there who got you there, and those old timers who have funny names.
On the other hand, anybody remember Red Skelton? Was it Clum Kadiddlehopper, or Clem? I thought Clem was the famous one? Maybe they were brothers?
I would love nothing more than to have a NGS monument named Waynes World. You can even pee on it, I would. It will be within 0.04 ft for those that care....;-)
> CLUM is the name of the station...
These station names are just made up on the spot. There is no special meaning. The data sheet that Kent has posted shows that the position and elevation given is not real precise by modern standards.
Check out the position in your new Google Earth Pro, guys. Beautiful panoramic pictures at the site.
In my area, the old triangulation stations are named after a nearby town or land owner. The three that come to mine are Astoria and Littleton, nearby towns and Burnham, named after the land owner.
The reason for the name is very simple. The station eas sey on a mountain top several years ago, so "they done clun up'air to set it". What else could have been a better name??
CP above has it. sans his fat fingers! They "Clum up thar an set it"!!!
🙂

trig-leveled from probably many miles, then shifted from ngvd29 to 88 using a conversion program, gigo, some tri stations do double duty, not this one
