A simple feature I would like to see in Data Collectors...

I would like to have it remember point numbers, for example,

Repetition Shots (TDS) or Set Collection (Carlson) remembers the last point number was 10.

Traverse/Sideshot (TDS) or Topo (Carlson) remembers the last point number was 510.

I use handwritten notes for this but it would be nice if the DC would just remember the last point number for different types of shots.

I second that. I typically enter the first number in the series and let the DC tell me that it is already used and find the next no. for me, but if the DC had half the brains of a cheap cell phone it would remember.

And another thing. Why cant it remember the foresight height and use it for the inst. height when I move up and then again for the backsight height? 15 years ago The Wild internal data collection I was using could do that. I've got other things to think about so I have to write it down.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Trimble always defaults to the last point number, according to the type of shot: topo, observed control, continuous topo, etc.

The thing I don't like about it is that the TSC2 defaults to the last shot, and not the last one within that particular project. So if you aren't on the same job, it will go to whatever point number you shot regardless of the project.

At least it's smart enough to prompt you for duplicate point numbers within your project. EX: project A has topo points 100-157. project B has topo points 154-206. Return to project A and the assigned point number will be 207, when you really want it to be 158-199, so you have to change it. Go back to project B and it will assign 200 and prompt you for an overwrite or 'go to next', so you have to change it.

Just another thing to watch out for, and kind of a PIA.

And the prism constant for sets vs. topo.

Oh yeah, and DeathRay would come in handy occasionally.

How about a flame thrower to clear a line through the brush?

Maybe some DC do this, but I find myself always writing down a station number or an offset on the cover of the TCU so I can remember it. If there was a way to just switch back and forth to a touchscreen notepad to write something down, that would be handy.

My favorite is "How much to survey my half acre?"

I don't know, how much water to fill a lake?

I'm thinking top mount .22LR with alignment yolk, to take out those #$%^$#^%& flashing lights on every piece of heavy equipment made.

Ten times a day I get right to a critical grade mark and the damn receiver goes nuts as the assistant associate to the electrical contractor goes by on his mid-morning joy ride on the Gator.
