Partitioning off 200 Acres from the main farm. Land owner wants to be there to define new dividing line. I asked him up front how many corners he thought we would have to define the southerly boundary. He said between 7 and 10. We end up with 82 corners on 6381 feet of boundary. Most are trees and he was out there every day and pointed out each and every one of them to us. 7-10 corners my butt. Holy talk about time consuming. That is a corner every 77 feet for over a mile! He followed old roads and flats so the roads could be connected. Now I just can't figure out how he thought he could do this with 7-10 corners which I gave him the estimate by. Needless to say we exceeded the estimate by a dollar or two.
Scope Creep. Scope Creep. Scope Creep
That is outrageous!
Back in the day when we had a thousand year old stiff legged transit and a 100 foot tape we did a project a bit like that. We encircled a hill with 50 and 100 foot sides with a set up on every bend. Somehow, we then went back and split that crazy shape into three equal-area tracts. No fancy AutoCad or least-squares involved. One very basic calculator with trig functions.

lol. I had to type it. I'll email a copy to the attorney. They lucked out.
Armed with a simple 5 function calculator (+,-,x,/,=) and a trig fan, a one acre Jim Walter Home job wound up with 14 sides.
Next afternoon the office tech was full of questions cause all I left him was a sketch with calls and a long list of computations he could not cipher.
