Anybody ever seen anything like this. We found it in misc. documents in the local County New Jersey Court House. As you can see at bottom, it was recorded but not filed in a Deed Book.

I'm having trouble understanding how the 7th amendment applies in this instance...

"In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law."

Me to. That's why I'm paying it no attention. The Title Company didn't find it, so it's not part of search--we were just digging a little deeper since the property was "owner unknown" for a long time before the Township sold it at a Sheriff's sale and that buyer eventually sold it to "Green Acres".

There was a "stop foreclosure" scam last decade that involved filing for a land patent and then claiming you had superior title over the mortgage holder. I wonder if this document relates to one of those scams.

Here's a little about it:

>These days, many people are worried that their home may be foreclosed on. Scammers are preying on this fear by holding “seminars” in which they sell you a “land patent” on your property. They claim that if you apply for this patent, generally costing between $500 and $15,000, you can prevent foreclosure. In addition to paying this large sum, you are required to remove the address numbers from your house, remove all mail receptacles, and “trademark” your name, along with several other bizarre tasks. The people leading these seminars state that, by following these instructions (and paying their fee), you can re-negotiate your promissory notes and trust deeds with your lender. As a result, you will then only be required to pay a percentage of your previous mortgage payment every month.

>This is “patently” a scam. If you are contacted by these folk or have already bought a “land patent,” report them by calling the San Diego District Attorney’s Real Estate Fraud Hotline at 619-531-3552.

Here's my guess.

There is a movement amongst anti-eminent domain activists to claim that any government taking outside the confines of a jury trial is a violation of the Seventh Amendment. My guess is that someone read something on the internet, "believes" that the sale of the property by the township was unconstitutional and is trying to quit claim the previously "owner unknown" property.

Without going into the realm of the "Politics & Religion" threads, I think the "natural born sovereign citizen" phrase opens a window onto the mindset of the person who recorded the document. I saw a similar document that also stated that the property needed to be sold for "silver lawful money".
