Monument we recovered last Friday. I knew that one of my dumbass predecessors had dug down to the top of the stone in 1990 and thought it would be cool to jackhammer drill a 5/8" rebar into the top. He usually blew apart the stones when he did this, so I get to repair them, lower them, and set a capped pipe over the top.
Is that "J.B.Weld?"
It's a really sticky rubber silicone called Lawson Flexseal Supreme that comes in a pressurized can. The best stuff I have found to bond pieces of stone back together if you have a little time to let it set up is Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty.
You must have more "dumbass predecessors" than me. I have yet to find a stone mutilated in such fashion. Therefore, I consider myself quite fortunate.
I know in SE New Mexico, we routinely work to/from GLO 1880ish stones, still visible and well used.
Cool find for y'all tho.
