any tips on getting this to work.... i get an error message telling me something about a file it cannot locate.... I am working with pre TBC stuff

Are you using the latest version of Data Transfer (v1.56)?
yes the error message I get is that the system cannot find the specified file. when I ignore tyhe message it appears no to see any com ports
Sounds like a "compatibility files" problem. That is a new problem invented by Microsoft for Win 7 & 8. It means your files are not always where you think.

Back many years ago in my data comm days, there was often a missing file from some people's systems. I think it was called commdrv.sys
I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't the missing file.
Yes we are having an issue with a Windows 8 computer talking to Trimble controllers (64bit). I.T. Has been working on it for a while. They haven't figured it out yet.
Windows 7 works.
