I have noticed that Windows won't default to the last used directory when I want to retrieve a file. For example, when I try to open data file, the default location windows will go to is not in the working file directory that I have been using. It goes to some random location, usually the same one, but not the one I have been using. Is there a way to cause it to default the the directory that I last used?

For example, if I load an ACAD file and then close it, and I want to open it again using the File/Open command, it defaults to some other project. I know that I can use the Recent list on the file menu, but I am just using this as an example.

I have had this issue for every software and figure it is a Windows setting.

It's probably a program setting. Most programs have an option some where in their set up mode that sets the default place for storing files. Can't be much help beyond that because every program does it different.

I don't think it's a Win7 problem.

In that case, I suggest that Carlson look at addressing this problem. It is really a time waste to have to keep doing this.

Do you have your Carlson set to write a new *.ini file for your drawings?

Under properties for the desktop icon there is an option for "Start In" a given directory

Its usually blank

But you can set it to start the program in a given directory

Whether a program takes note of this when starting and populating the File Open and File Save dialogs is actually up to the programmer.

You could try setting it and see if it helps

Just tried that on a completely different program and it seems to work, Thanks for the suggestion. I had been looking in the program options...
