TSC2 Woes

It's just not my week. Now my TSC2 (V12.50, 11 years old) is misbehaving. I had it in the rig in 30?øF weather for a couple of hours while I did something else. When I grabbed it and tried to turn it on, all I got was a very dark screen with a bunch of moving lines running both horizontally and vertically. I brought it in and stuck it on the charger and now the lines are still happening but it intermittently tries to boot (showing the TSC2 graphic with a gloved hand on the screen, and the collector chirps.) The boot attempts don't appear to finish and the screen keeps going back to the dark lined screen. I don't know how it could have been out of juice, but it seems suspicious. What do you suppose is wrong? TIA

Have had similar problems with our TSC2' removed link ?ÿ Keep in mind it's a 10 year old computer and screen, may be time for it to be retired!?ÿ Only luck we had was a screen replacement but I'm not sure Trimble is even doing that anymore, good luck!

Try pulling the battery and leaving it unplugged overnight. I believe there is a capacitor in there and sometimes it needs to be completely drained to fix itself. That's worked on several TSC2's that I have used.

@gmpls?ÿ Gregg, when you pulled the battery and left it out, did you lose anything from your memory(ies)? (The old TSC2 manual mentions an on board backup utility called Sprite Backup, but it doesn't appear to be bundled in the newer versions of Survey Controller.)

FWIW, after a week on the charger, she's now reading 100% charge and it seems to be holding. Fingers crossed.

I have two TSC2's that I don't use very much. I have been using them to collect static data from some old 4700 receivers.?ÿ The 4700's won't store the correct date in the files.?ÿ Everything worked well with using the TSC2 to store the file (log to the TCS2) up untill July this year.?ÿ Now a problem with dates has appeared on the TSC2.?ÿ I reverts to April 1998.?ÿ We change the date to current, seems OK but log a 4700 static file and the date goes back to 1998.?ÿ Doesn't seem to affect all TSC2's as an associate has been using the equipment and one of his TSC2's seems to hold the date and the problem seems to be mostly on one of mine.

I suppose it's time to put this stuff in the trash or something.

?ÿ

Anybody else had this date problem with a TSC2?

Are you sure it's the TSC2 and not the 4700 that's doing it??ÿ

I've seen a lot of posts about older Trimble receivers with date problems and workarounds for same.

Pretty much any problem I have had with my TSC2's I fixed by booting the device....as Bill said, I would look at the 4700

Mapman, I believe you can process Trimble 4700 files in Trimble Geomatics Office if you have access to that.
