Anyone using Trimble gear and Carlson Survey out there? Acquired a seat of Carlson Survey with IntelliCAD 2020 and now that I have a bit of extra time on my hands, I'm working on getting more familiar with drafting with it. First hurdle is finding the best way to get my field data back and forth between them short of resorting to ASCII files. Searched up some past threads but didn't find what I was looking for. Thinking I may have to run my access files through TBC to accomplish this, but holding out hope for a better way.

Cheers.

May you never run short of TP in your moment of need.

There's nowt wrong with Ascii

We export data from Access on our TSC-3 to take direct into 12D, no TBC required.

The Jobs menu has an import/export option.

Export as csv will give you the point data.

There are a variety of formats available.

We actually use a custom format to give us the data as a 12D field file.

We bring data back in as CSV or DXF as needed

Should be something there that will work for you

@jimcox

Thanks. That would work, the problem I have is the exported coordinates from Access as an ASCII or .csv file are 'sanitized' of the raw measurements. I need to dig into Trimble's website, I read something about a style sheet that would permit export of a cr5 and raw file that might accomplish what I want.

Access can export an RW5 file. I use that to use the measurements in StarNet (after running it through an RW5 to DAT converter).

You download the file you need from Trimble's website and put it in the System Files folder in the Trimble Data folder on the controller.

The way I do it is process in TBC then export a CSV for import to Microsurvey (in my case). If I do computations in Microsurvey then I export a CSV and put it in the project folder on the controller and link it in a new JOB file.

@williwaw In Carlson Survey, look under Survey -- Edit-Process Raw Data File. Within the File menu of the dialog box is an Import option that permits Trimble *.dc and *.jxl files to be imported. This and other raw file types can be imported and ultimately saved into the *.RW5 file format.

From there, look at the Process (Compute Points) menu to start to derive desired results.

I hope this information helps.

I export a .dc file from the controller and import to rw5 file in Carlson. Then I process in Survnet Least squares, it works well as I can combine raw information from different manufacturers easily.

I wouldrecommend the jxl format. Thatƒ??s an xml with all data of the job file. All raw data is in there and IT is kind of readable with a good editor. (I use sublime, and thatƒ??s just sublime for xml files) ?ÿTBC wil import the jxl as wel.

the dc format is old, less readable.

@christ-lambrecht

Notepad++ is another pretty good text editor.  I currently use UltraEdit and UltraCompare, they aren't free but being able to set two xml files side by side to compare is priceless.

The above-mentioned Trimble style sheets can be found here:

https://www.trimble.com/globalTRLTAB.aspx?nav=Collection-32914

There is an RW5 converter along with several raw file formats. It's been a while since I have used them but they worked pretty well.

Drop the XSL into the Trimble Data/System Files/ folder on the DC and they will be available for conversion in the export routine.
