We are investigating switching from TSC3 collectors to trimble T10 tablets. So I have a couple of questions;

1-Does anybody have experience running trimble robots with a non-trimble tablet while using access?

2-In general, any impressions on using the T10?

3-If using the T10, are there mounting systems outside the $800 trimble mount?

?ÿ

Thanks in advance.

Don't switch to the T10!?ÿ You won't like it and your field crews will hate it.?ÿ It is cumbersome and almost impossible to see in bright sunlight.?ÿ Full disclosure, I work for a dealer.?ÿ We actively try to talk people out of them.?ÿ There are two other Windows 10 devices that we sell and love.?ÿ The T7 tablet and the TSC7 data collector.?ÿ The T7 tablet is just that, a Win10 tablet with a seven inch screen.?ÿ The TSC7 is very similar to the TSC3, just with a seven inch screen and much better operating system.?ÿ Both of these choices work great in all conditions.

I suggest talking to your dealer and getting a demo of all three before you purchase.

Agree with @fairleywell. If you want the physical keypad, go with the TSC7. If you are OK with touchscreen-only, go with the T7.

?ÿ

The only reason that I would ever consider the T10 is if I wanted to use it as a field laptop with the detachable keyboard. It has enough juice to run TBC and process data. But unless you are seriously squeezed on time/space, you'll be happier with a dedicated DC and dedicated laptop.

May be also used as a wheel chock.

Everybody above is right, even with using it exclusively with an SX10 for scanning where you think the big screen would be helpful, the TSC7 was better in every way. Our first one was a lemon as well and got replaced by Trimble. Connection problems

go for the TSC 7 it's the best of the keypad data collector & tablet world. I come from using mainly tablets (Topcon FC5000's with pocket 3D & Trimble Yuma 2 w/ Access 2017) & there's something to be said for having the keypad/keyboard. If screen space isn't a worry of yours then a TSC3 is nice for the weight & size in the woods. I like the extra screen space of tablets though for construction staking?ÿ

@fairleywell?ÿ The T7 isn't as hard to see in the sun as the T10?

Also, it seems strange to me that smartphones are able to build the screen to within a couple millimeters of the edge of the device but on the TSC7 there's like... 2 inches.?ÿ I don't expect it to be the same given the uses but man, I can't help but think there's wasted space somewhere in there...

Thank you guys....I will make sure to look at the T7. They tested the TSC7 with the keyboard in the past and didn't like the bulk of it. My experience is with the FC-5000 and Panasonic tough books.....and I had no real issue with giving up the keyboards for the extra screen size.

I was worried that a 10" tablet would be too big, as my experience is with a 7" tablet and it seems just right. Our main goal is to just get everything into one unit and toss mobile mifi's, tablets, laptops, etc and end up with all of it under one machine.

@terminus-nc?ÿ I used a FC 5000 for a while and I definitely liked the screen but it seemed almost useless in rain and snow.?ÿ The trimble guys tell me their stuff works fine in rain but I haven't heard one way or the other from surveyors.

@bstrand

To use the FC5000 and FC6000 in rain, you need the special stylus that connects to the power port, and set to rain mode. This works in a down pour.

I MUCH prefer my T7 over TSCs. The way it's balanced in the middle of the rod, right front of you, speeds things up. Getting plumb is way easier. - at least for me.

I used the Yuma2 for several years and then jumped to the T7 aka Yuma7 as soon as it was available.?ÿ I use it in the rain more than I care to admit and it's extremely rare to get false clicks from rain or anything else.?ÿ

@leegreen?ÿ Interesting.?ÿ Yeah, I didn't have any sort of special stylus.?ÿ I ended up putting a plastic shower cap over the screen and that made it usable for the most part.

I love my TSC7 but the touch screen does not work well in the rain. Maybe I should be looking for a rain setting. If the T7 and T10 have similar rain performance, I would not want one since there is no physical keyboard to fall back on. The screen is easy to view though, even in bright sunlight.
