I'm trying hard not to be a hater but this software is driving me nuts. How do I view ALL raw data in a .mjf file in Magnet tools, not just the total station observations but the actual raw data, including any offsets used to generate the coordinates and any transformations or rotations performed on the coordinates ass part of the field work. I'm sure that it's just me but this software does not seem very user friendly to me.

Thanks

RRain

In the Magnet Field software you can view and edit the raw data by going to EDIT then RAW DATA. Not sure how to do it in the office software.

It is not that bad, Randy. LOL. Want me to give you a call and walk you through it. Oh, and you can export the raw out as TDS if that is easier

Hey mate,
I'm guessing that you're doing a direct import of the .mjf file into the survey module of the software. Have you tried dragging an exported file into the raw data editor? When I was using Topsurv back in the day I'd create a gts7 file and import it into the raw data editor in what was called CivilCAD back then, now it's been re-badged Magnet Office. This method should allow you to see all observations, scale factors applied, offset details, etc. so that you can manipulate your readings if need be before transfering the data to the survey module.

OK, I have found how to access any sideshot offset information by right clicking the observation and selecting properties and choosing the offset tab which allows me access to the offset data (left/right in/out +/- dist). What I can't find is where or even if any translation/rotation information (range of points affected, brg/az and dist of trans or rotation point and angle of rotation) is stored when that calculation is performed in the field. I can't for the life of me see why that vital information would not be preserved somewhere in the raw data or the job file.

Thanks for any insight;

Randy,

I'm not if you want to perform this in the field or office. Sounds you are looking for a log file of what was done in the field. I don't think there is bread crumb trail of translations and resection data perfomed in Magnet Software. At least I have never seen it.

Thanks Lee, that lets me use MAGNET Tools to do the translate/rotate, but what if it was already done in the field and I want to see that information later in the office? I have also downloaded/installed MAGNET Field on my office PC but still I can't find anywhere in the .mjf file that rotation/translation data is stored.

There is no log file or bread crumb trail in Magnet Field that I know of.

I asked that specific question about Magnet's predecessor TopSurv. This was the response from Topcon after my dealer forwarded my questions to them:
"Topsurv isn't programmed to write any (cogo) functionality into the raw data such as inverse, translate, etc."

I can answer most questions about Magnet Field.?ÿ

There is a V1.0 manual available at http://www.topconcare.com/files/8513/3123/1727/MAGNET_Field_v1.0_-_Help_Manual_Rev._A_1000411-01.pdf

But the current version is 7.2, so a lot has changed. Best to use the HELP feature in the upper left logo of the current display screen inside Magnet Field.

Not many vendors provide manuals anymore, most provide videos these days. Try YouTube and you can create a FREE account at https://www.topconpositioning.com/ for more videos to view.
