I was given an HP 48GX with this Topcon FC-48GX card and a 256k GX card.

It has the Tripod Data Systems info?ÿon it.

What do I have??ÿ How do I fire it up? Anyone have a manual for sale? No overlay card was provided.

I'm used to TDS Survey Pro.?ÿ Any resemblance?

Any help would be appreciated.

I may have a TDS overlay for a 48 that you can use. You will find that what you have IS Survey Pro with maybe a very few minor exceptions.

I pulled up the carpet in my office and put down hardwood a couple months back and I saw the overlay when I was cleaning everything out, I'll take a look and see if I can find it.

I have a pdf of a manual that the overlay says 48COGO at the bottom.

It is 3.9mb so it is email sized.

Yes it was.?ÿ And thanks again.

I've replied by snail mail.

You're right about it being almost Survey Pro.

One thing I found out while scouring the net for a manual to print was how to reconfigure the 256K card to factory specs.

I got the dreaded WARNING! INVALID CARD message after loading the program, so I went looking for a new one when I came across someone who had the same problem and posted it on some other board.?ÿ An answer came back that worked perfectly.

Does the 256K memory card have a replaceable battery in it??ÿ If so, you can find those at most stores that sell batteries.

After removing the battery with the card not in the collector, you will find that the card has effectively been erased by that action.?ÿ You can avoid loss of data if you change the battery with card in the 48 and the 48 on.?ÿ It is a bit tedious but it can be done.?ÿ If the card does not have a replaceable battery, that brings on other issues.

Dave,

I have come across an HP 48GX with some TOPCON FC-48GX Survey cards and TDS RAM cards. Do you know where I can get a manual for the TOPCON card and an overlay. These were used by our company when we were in the construction business.?ÿ I want to sell them but need to test them first.?ÿ

Any help would be appreciated.

I looked all over for a manual, never found one.

I decided it was so much like Survey Pro that I would fumble my way around and through it.

See the A Harris post above.

With the HP48 off, insert the program card into port 2. Turn the Hp48 on hit the alpha key twice and type fc48 enter , It should say "installing library" or something similar. Turn the Hp48 off and move the program card to port 1 and install the memory card in port 2. Turn the Hp48 back on and repeat the alpha alpha fc48 enter. You should be up and running if the cards are good.
