Okay, I am having a blonde moment.

I have been using some title blocks that I created for my drawings, and I would like them to insert with the lower left hand corner to be the insertion point.

I generally do all my drawings in model space, only using paper space on once in a while. I have the title blocks drawn in their own separate drawing, and the lower left hand corner is at 0,0. When I insert them, and pick the insertion point, and enter the drawing scale for teh scale factor, they always insert at a far off spot, and I have to zoom extents, and then move them to where I need them.

I have a day where I can tinker with it, and hopefully get this corrected. It is more annoying that anything. Not really a big deal, but I would like to get it corrected.

Please refresh my memory in what I need to do to fix this. I am using Carlson Survey Standalone 2008, with Autocad inside.

Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

Not sure about Carlson, but in AutoCAD you need to make sure that INSBASE is set to 0,0. Also pay attention to INSUNITS, INSUNITSDEFSOURCE AND INSUNITSDEFTARGET.

I use Carlson on ACAD 2005, so I'm not sure if the insert dialogue window is the same, but when you use the insert command, are you given the option for "Insertion Point - Specify on Screen"? I have mine set to automatically insert at 0,0.

I think your title block origin point will vary for each drawing (if you are using model space).

The linework for the drawing will be wherever your coordinates tell it to be. If you use assumed coordinates, then the drawing may be way out around 10,000 , 10,000, (or whatever you use). You could always look for a point to the lower left of all the line work and insert it there to be somewhat close.

I do EXACTLY what you do and have never had a problem. I think you need to open each title block drawing and set the BASE to 0,0. When you insert them into each drawing thereafter they should not come in "far away", but right at your picked insertion point.

Jimmy,

Lets skin the cat differently. We also work in model space. We made a drawing for each size paper we use and for each scale we use in each size of paper. In each of these drawings we put the border, our company title block, required notes, and our title information for the map we are doing, ie.. Map of Property, Site Plan, Sketch Plan/Preliminary/Final Subdivision Map, subdivision road plans and details, or SWPPP Map. We call it the border drawing.

This way we can copy the border drawing into our original drawing and move it around to see if our it fits at the scale we want. If not we copy in another border drawing of another scale.

Our avarage parcel survey fits on a 11"x17" sheet. However besides the parcel we may have to show: Village or Town existing and proposed lot coverage and New York State DEC existing and proposed lot coverage, septic design, and stormwater management computations and details. Sometimes you can not get 5.1 gal. of EPA matter in a 5.0 gal. bucket. Then we go to a larger scale border drawing.
