I have a project I am working on that will require me to put a spreadsheet table on sheets in the plan set. The project has approximately 4500 parcels/easements/ etc, that each have a row in the spreadsheet. Each sheet in the plan set will have a different combination of rows for the parcels and easements shown on that sheet.
I have completed a "pilot" project area, and that time, the spreadsheet was smaller, and we had a lot of empty fields in the spreadsheet for data that was being researched at the time. My approach at that time was to take the "master worksheet" and use that as the base, and create tabs in the for each "sheet" in the plan set. I'd have to make copies for each "group" of areas because I anticipate about 50 to 75 sheets in the plan set.
My process involved taking parcel records "rows" and copying them, and then pasting links into the appropriate tab to create the tab that would be on each sheet. Pasting the link would allow me to make a change on the master worksheet tab,and it would update the same record on the tab for the sheet.
I would then select the rows and columns to the clipboard, and then "pastespec" into my paper space layout tab for that sheet. The result would be an OLE object that would automatically update if a change was made in the spreadsheet. Is this the most efficient way to do this?
We have found that using this method the drawing slows down considerably, but there is not an easier way that I can think of. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Jimmy
I think Terry dotson has a solution for this with his plugin xl2cad.
Will this work in the embedded version of Carlson? I know they really stripped it down. If it will, this would do the trick.
Not sure, i have no experience with OEM.
Thanks, I sent in the request for the evaluation copy. I have the Carlson GIS with Intellicad, so I have that option as well ot evaluate it. That looks like it may be the way to go.
Terry dotson has excellent support and surely can help you out.
Personally I would use a crayon before I would use OLE, way too many problems. One thing you may be able to do with your existing software is to print your spreadsheets to PDF files and use PDF Underlay in IntelliCAD (and possibly the Carlson OEM).
One day the ITC will finish making changes needed for us to finish our porting of inside CAD tools. Until then only our http://www.dotsoft.com/excel2dwg.htm&apos ;">XL2DWG would be of help as it runs inside of Excel and creates/maintains DWG files. If you go with XL2DWG now we will provide the IntelliCAD version when (and if) it comes available. I've sent you the link to the XL2DWG evaluation so you can try it.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate it. I received the download link. I will be looking at it this morning.
My version of Carlson uses the AutoCAD 13 engine. I also have Carlson GIS which runs in Intellicad 8 for windows.

That's a good one, Terry! 😉
