I swear I can remember connecting a tangent to a curve with a spiral with just a couple of clicks or commands.
I do not need an alignment, I just want to insert a spiral.
Using Autocad Civil 3d 2012 now, and I can't find (or remember) what I did a year ago.
Any help appreciated.
Creating an alignment is the only way that I've been able to do spirals in C3D. I thought there was a way in LDD, but the Autocad guys that I know say there wasn't. I did request that it be put into C3D and they said they are working on it, been almost a year now.
On a side I made a spreadsheet for the calcs so that I can draw a resonable faxcimile of a spiral, but I don't think I'd use it for design or layout.
Richard is correct on both counts:
1. You HAVE to create an alignment to create a spiral...
2. LDD did allow you to create spirals without creating an alignment.

This is correct!
Oxymoron?
"Simple Spirals"
They take a while to calc long hand.
Thats all I remember!

Yes on the difficulty of calculating a spiral.
Years and years ago, I used to calculate oil and gas leases on Federal Land and of course was using a Monroe hand crank calculator and had a very difficult time attempting to run lats and deps around a parcel that bordered on a railroad with spirals. I am sure I was close enough for acreage purposes?
