Well this is quite a coincidence! To bad we weren't aware of each other sooner so we could have worked together. I see it as a win/win for the survey community. Both our programs do the same thing. We got the idea from a post by Dario Canosa on Survey Connect. Glad to see you are offering your product for free too.

Christof. & John...

"I have absolutely no idea what they are posting about here."

Me either Brad, but I am humbly amazed at all of the geniuses that provide a cornucopia of solutions on this board. It's absolutely amazing!

Have a great weekend! 🙂

program for dat files

I have created a program that will "fix" the dat files themselves. It does the same as the other programs, i.e. moves the time back 6 years. It will work on all dat files in a directory or selected dat files only. Also, it will give the option to overwrite the original file (optionally creating a backup, which is the default) or creating a file with a "-T" added to the file prefix.

I will also offer it free of charge to anyone, since I think Trimble Screwed us on this issue.

You will still need to use the other programs to convert rinex files from CORS, for example.

If you use teqc or any other rinex converter, the rinex obs and nav files created from the modified dat files will have the older dates that will work in TGO.

To get the program (which must be installed) go to ftp.terrasurv.com, login as anonymous, use email as password. Go to the FixDatTGO directory.

Download the three files (setup.exe, setup.lst, and FixDatTGO.cab). Then run the setup program. I welcome feedback about problems, suggestions for improvement, or any other comments. My email and phone number are in the about dialog.

program for dat files

Welcome to the club John,
we might as well start a programmers corner here.
I think we have 3 different approaches now for the problem.

I'll have a look at your version when I finish the orbit files, great you can work with the .dat files.
I discussed this before with Dario, do you have a link to the .dat file format, I had no idea this was ever published by X

I bet you do have other survey related software you wrote yourself!

program for dat files

I have a whole slew of programs that I created. My former partner gave them the name HAT (Hamilton Analytical Tools). But, I really don't want to get in the business (at least not now-too many other things going on) of writing software for public use, as I can't spare the time to offer support and respond to users. But, I felt this was important.

Years ago (late 90's) I wrote software to collect data at CORS, and the PA CORS at that time used it for a while until Trimble came out with better solution than what they had previously, namely dos program logst. Mine worked fine, created both rinex and dat files, but when windows XP came along it didn't work so well, and I never took the time to fix it. But, by doing that I learned a lot about the internals of dat files.

If anyone ever has a need for custom programming, I am always for hire! I also do a lot of database stuff, both with GPS and conventional data, coordinates, etc.

program for dat files

Actually, in my solution it is not necessary to use a -6 year offset. I could be any amount of weeks, as long as it places the date before 9/16/2011. It could even be 1980.

The only thing I change is the week numbers, both for the gps observations and the ephemeris records that are in the dat file. Since each epoch is stored in the dat file as milliseconds of the week, it doesn't matter what the actual date is.

But, I decided to use -6 years to be consistent with what you guys are doing, so that rinex files from CORS can be edited with the other programs and imported.

Are you going to work on the precise ephemeris (sp3 format)? That should be an easy fix as well. The week number only appears on the second line of the file (and maybe isn't even used by TGO). All the rest are rinex type dates every 15 minutes.

John,
I almost finished the sp3 format, indeed same approach as the nav and obs files.
I'm left alone for the moment, John, my test driver abandoned me for the weekend 😉

Do you have a link to the .dat file format for me?

Dario, Christof and John;

I have made a $75 contribution to the Beer Leg web site in your names to show you (and Wendell) my appreciation for the hard work that you put into solving this Trimble dating issue. This was a portion of the $200 that Kent paid me to convert and backdate about 50 .dat files for him. Without your sweet little utility this would have been a painstakingly tedious process (I know I did several manually before Kent suggested your utility).

Once again Beer Leg and it's loyal posters come to the rescue. This place and you guys ROCK.

Van
There is an updated version of the program that Christof and I worked on a few days ago. I don't know if Christof has updated Wendell with it yet. I would be happy to send it to you and I would like to have a copy of your files to use for testing.

Hello Everybody

First, Congratulations for your program Rinex Dates v1.3
I work in New Caledonia, My English is not good as well as you guys
But I will try to write some sentences fluently.

I worked with TGO 6 years ago and when happened 16/09/2011, I was angry against Trimble but now I found your solution and It is Magnificent

But, I have a problem with observations past midnignt.
I work in New Caledonia in South Pacific and when it is 11.00 am, at Greenwich, it is 0.00 like midnight.
I have some problem for calculate my baseline with TGO for observations during 11.00 when I converted my rinex file with Rinex Dates v1.1

I will try tomorrow if the bug persits but I download the version 1.3.
If I have a new problem, I will come back to you.

Thanks you.
John

John,

the bug with the GMT midnight observations should be fixed,

if you encounter problems you can send me your files, we'll have a look at them,

RinexDates - TGO Workaround for 1 billion sec issue

Hi,

I got an alert from some Russian users that TGO would not longer process Rinex data collected on the 1st of March and that was modified by the RinesDates 1.4 program.
Currently we're testing RinexDates 1.5 with a new date offset and things look promising.
We'll make the update available here after some more testing,

Christof.

RinexDates - TGO Workaround for 1 billion sec issue

Hi. I'm writing from Brazil.
RinexDates is really great ! I've used it a couple of times with no kind of problems.
But a few days ago TGO has stopped recognizing the precise ephemeris from march.
I've tried the 1.4 and 1.5 versions. But nothing happened.
Is TGO dealing well with the precise ephemeris in your works ?
Thanks and as we say here
Um abraço !

Luciano
