Proxy Objects

Often I get drawings from some of our local Engineering Brethren, and they have been created with Civil3D. I convert them down to my ACAD Release 2012 in Trueview, but I still get the little boxes that represent the Proxy Objects. I went to the AutoCAD website and downloaded and installed the Release 2012 Object Handler in my 2012 version, but still see the boxes. I am running AutoCAD Map3d with Carlson Survey on top of it. Do I need to install the object handlers for each release of AutoCAD? For example, Rel. 2014 and Release 2015?

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I believe you are going to have to get the engineer or user to EXPORT the drawing to AutoCAD. I believe that is what others have said.

I have the same problem. I am using Carlson Survey 2008 with embedded AutoCAD.

Looking at the latest version of AutoCAD in t he office 2015 I think), under the "Export" selection, export to AutoCAD is no longer one of the options.
It appears that the goal of Autodesk is to force everyone to have at least one copy. AND that copy better be the most current version.

In my version of Civil 3D 2015, it is under Export, then Export Civil 3D Drawing. Under Export Settings it lets you choose the file type (.dwg or .dgn) and the version.

It's in C3d 2015.

Before the export type proxygraphics in the command line and set it to 1. If it is at 0, all proxy graphics come in as "boxes".

Is there anything I can do on my end to convert a drawing that has been sent to me with proxy objects? I was hoping that the installation of the object handlers would fix this, but from all the responses, it looks like the person sending it will have to export a neutered version of the drawing.

Thanks again for all the responses.

We have acad 2014 in the office and I have downloaded the enabler and the others haven't. I am the only one who can see the objects and convert them for the others. They will be proxy entities and you will need to explode them to use them. For a short term fix you can send me the file and I will see if I can help. stephenemberson at gmaildotcom

You won't (to my knowledge) be able to install 2014 and/or 2015 object enablers into your 2012 version of Map 3D. However, check the commands cited at [msg=257440]this thread[/msg] and utilize the ODA (Open Design Alliance) converters if prompted. We don't have support yet for all C3D objects but should be able to at least retrieve points and surfaces. You would, however, have to have Carlson 2014 or later.
