I just purchased a new laptop for the business. I ended up with a Dell Inspiron 15. It has an Intel core i3, 6GBRAM 15.6" screen, and a built in numeric keypad. It is running Windows 8. I decided to just go ahead and take the plunge. I still have the older laptop until I get everything working as it should, so productivity should not suffer.
It probably won't be as much of a workhorse as what some of you guys use, but I think it will work for my small operation. I am not a power user, and my last laptop is still running pretty good, but dos struggle with some larger drawings.
I was able to purchase two laptops this morning, for what one I built with very similar specs at the Toshiba site last night. My wife got the second one for the book keeping stuff. I paid $350 each for them at Walmart.
The desktop will become a standalone CAD station for heavy drafting as needed, but will probably be taken out of service as soon as I get everything tweaked with the new laptop.
Thanks for all of the advice over the past few months.
Have a great weekend.

I think that you will find that setup is powerful enough for your needs, but it may lack the video capability to run a second monitor.
I hope it will run a second monitor. My older laptop runs one without incident.

I have an older Inspiron with the 17" screen. Beware. The screen hinges on these laptops are notorious for breaking if the screen is opened and closed often and/or harshly. The right hinge on mine is now held together with ripstop nylon repair tape, barely. Opening and closing it is now a delicate affair.
I run a Dell Inspiron I purchased several years ago. Mine also runs 6G Ram (I run Windows 7 Ultimate). I've had no problems with ACAD and I also run a second monitor at the office with no problems.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you...

Inspiron 15 is what Dell calls a wide range of laptops in 15 inch format. You can get one from Walmart for $350, like Jimmy did, or you can load one up at the Dell website and pay over $2k.
I ordered mine custom built from Dell website 🙂
