Here are my code cards. We use C3d here, so they are tailored to that.
This system is a development of one I was first introduced to in 1993. All features are defined in terms of both a 3 number code and an alpha. The numbers are easier to enter once you have them memorized. The alphas are easier to remember -some say. Those shown in bold are intended to be collected as "figures" (ie/ lines).
Earlier iterations of this system had many more codes and none for miscellaneous items. The idea was that if there were miscellaneous codes the field crews would fall into labelling almost everything miscellaneous. Nowadays the "field crew" is also the drafter, so the motivations are different. I've endeavored to keep this code list as short as possible.
